Claes is an attorney at law. He has studied law in Sweden, Canada and France, and has 20 years of experience in patent law and other intellectual property law in various roles. Most recently, he was a European patent judge (reappointed) at the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office in Munich. Before that, he was a specialist counsel at a leading Swedish law firm. Claes has also been the government’s patent law expert in international negotiations and legislative matters for almost ten years, focusing on the unitary patent system (UPP/UPC) and deeply involved in the implementation of the reform at European and national level. Prior to that, he worked as a national judge in the intellectual property divisions of the Stockholm District Court and the Svea Court of Appeal.
Claes is responsible for our legal affairs and manages the legal department on an operational level. He works with strategic issues and, at a detailed level, with applications, disputes and agreements across the field of intellectual property law. His working languages are English, German, French and Swedish.
